You’re Not Alone: Free Mental Health Education for Families This Fall

When someone you love is living with a mental health condition, it can be hard to know how to help—or even how to cope yourself. You may feel overwhelmed, confused, or isolated. That’s why we're offering the NAMI Family-to-Family class this fall: a free, in-person program designed to support you while you support someone else.

This 8-week course begins Monday, October 6, and runs through November 24. Classes meet once a week on Mondays, from 5:30 to 8:00 PM, at the NAMI Richland County office. The class is completely free, and open to family members, friends, and significant others of someone living with a mental illness.

“The teaching and support team was genuinely incredible. Their kindness, dedication, and openness made a significant impact.” - Anonymous participant

Family-to-Family is taught by trained peers. They understand what you’re going through, because they’ve been there. Each week covers topics like:

  • Understanding mental health conditions

  • Communicating effectively with your loved one

  • Navigating treatment and services

  • Managing stress and finding balance

  • Building a stronger support system

Past participants often leave the class feeling more confident, connected, and hopeful.

“Very friendly and willing to share in order to start conversations" - Anonymous participant

Even if you’ve never taken a class like this before, you’ll find a welcoming environment where your questions are taken seriously and your voice is heard. There’s no pressure to speak or share unless you want to.

"[The leaders] were wonderful and informative. They answered all questions with empathy and compassion." - Anonymous participant

Who Can Attend?

This course is for any adult who has someone in their life with a mental illness. That could mean a child, spouse, parent, sibling, partner, or close friend. It’s important to note that this class is not for individuals with a mental illness themselves, but for the people who care about them.

There’s no official cap on class size, but we encourage early registration—the fall session starts in just three weeks!
